Epic Games, Fortnite game developer, did something unusual. Buying a shopping center or mall to be transformed into a new headquarter.

Epic Games holds the company Turnbridge Equities, and Denali Properties bought the Cary Towne Center mall in North Carolina, United States (US). The company reportedly poured funds of up to US $ 98 million to buy the mall and remodel it to become Epic Games’ headquarter.

The plan is that the 980,000 square meter mall will be operated as the headquarter for Epic Games in 2024. Before being used, the company will be located on Crossroads Boulevard.

“Later this headquarter will have office buildings, recreation rooms and buildings that accommodate long-term growth,” said Epic Games in its official statement, quoted Thursday (6/1/2021).

In 2020, Epic Games managed to raise US $ 1.78 billion in investor funds. Currently, the company’s valuation has reached US $ 17.3 billion or has the status of a decacorn startup.

As of May 2020, Fortnite game users have surpassed 350 million. Fortnite is currently not available for download on the App Store due to a dispute with Apple over commission on item sales.
